Well, I have 99% finished the guitar. I'm fairly happy with it. A few features that I tried were somewhat successful. The first feature was high E fretboard space... I made the neck slightly wider to have more room for vibrato on the high E. I hate doing pull-offs on the high E and the string slips off the fretboard. This feature turned out well.
The item which is taking some getting used to is the neck width. It's pretty thick. Its a good thing I put in a two-way truss rod, because I had to use it to get some relief in the neck. I have heard of professional luthiers running into this as well, its not THAT thick, but its pretty hefty.
I need to finish crowning the frets, create the truss rod cover, and polish up a little.
So far it sounds great. I'll wait til the first set of strings are worn before crowning.
Will post some pics soon.
Building a Les Paul style guitar
Handcrafting a Les Paul style guitar. Using my tool set, and from researching similar projects that people have posted about on the internet, this is my attempt at building my first guitar.
